A clean and comfortable living environment doesn’t happen by chance—it requires consistent effort from every resident. Maintaining cleanliness in both your room and shared spaces is the most effective way to prevent common pests such as ants, cockroaches, and mosquitoes.
Why Do Ants, Cockroaches, or Mosquitoes Appear?
Pests are usually attracted by conditions that provide food, moisture, or shelter. The most common causes include:
Food crumbs or lingering smells in the room
Garbage not disposed of promptly (especially food waste)
Unsealed food or drinks
Doors or windows left open for long periods
Damp or humid environments (e.g. wet floors, water stains)
Even small habits can create the perfect environment for pests to thrive.
Daily Prevention Tips
1. Keep Your Room Clean
Good hygiene is your first line of defense against pests.
Clean your desk and surfaces immediately after eating
Avoid leaving food crumbs behind
Do not accumulate clutter such as cardboard boxes or paper bags
Dispose of food waste daily—never leave it overnight
Clean regularly (sweeping and mopping are recommended)
Cleaning tools are provided free of charge by Singroost.
2. Store Food Properly
Food that is left exposed can quickly attract insects.
Keep snacks and bread in airtight containers or sealed bags
Avoid leaving opened food uncovered
Store sweet items like cakes or bubble tea in the refrigerator
3. Keep the Room Dry
Moisture creates an ideal breeding ground for pests.
Avoid leaving water on floors or surfaces
Prevent stagnant water from forming
Dry surfaces immediately after cleaning
4. Close Entry Points
Limiting access is key to preventing pests from entering.
Close doors and windows when leaving the room
Keep the toilet lid closed after use
Avoid leaving openings unattended for long periods
What to Do If You Already Have Pests
If you notice ants, cockroaches, or mosquitoes in your room, take action immediately:
1. Dispose of all garbage, especially food waste, to remove attractants
2. Declutter your space by removing items like boxes and paper bags
3. Maintain a clean and dry environment consistently for at least 2–3 weeks
4. Use insecticides regularly
In the early stage, daily application is recommended
Reduce frequency once the situation improves
When the Situation Is Serious
If the infestation becomes difficult to control, you may need professional help.
Engage a third-party pest control service
Please note that the cost will be borne by the tenant
To find a service provider, simply search for “pest control” on Google to explore available options.
Important Notes
Residents are responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene within their own rooms. If pest-related issues arise due to poor upkeep, any associated cleaning or treatment costs will be the responsibility of the room’s occupants.
For shared rooms (e.g. double occupancy), Singroost management will assess the situation based on inspection and usage. If responsibility cannot be clearly determined, the cost will be shared between both occupants.
Keeping your room clean isn’t just about comfort—it’s the most effective way to keep unwanted pests away. Small daily habits make a big difference.
