What is Lease Stamp Duty and How is it Calculated?
9 December 2025

Under Singapore’s Stamp Duties Act, tenants are required to pay lease stamp duty after signing a tenancy agreement; failure to do so may constitute a legal violation.

The tenancy agreement is only officially recognized by the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) after the stamp duty has been paid.

The lease stamp duty is calculated at 0.4% of the total rent for the lease period.

Singroost will assist students in handling the lease stamp duty procedures, but students are responsible for paying the stamp duty themselves.

*Singroost will provide students with an electronic stamp duty certificate (indicating the stamp duty amount).
